Day 1

Glamis Castle, Forfar, Angus

Not only is Glamis Castle the childhood home of HM Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother and the birthplace of Princess Margaret, it is also the setting for Shakespeare’s Macbeth and is without doubt the most haunted building in the UK.

With frequent sightings of the Grey Lady, Jack the Runner, White Lady and Earl Beardie to name but a few.

So whether or not you manage to glimpse one of these paranormal beings, you will certainly feel their presence as you tour the castle at Halloween.

A fabulous day out with so much to see and do both inside and outside. So if you are into history, ghosts and /or gardens this is a must for you.  The only thing is you might struggle to fit everything in as there is so much to see at Glamis.

So if it awe-inspiring castles your after Glamis is a definite contender.

Day 2

Culloden Moor and Battlefield

The windswept Culloden Moor witnessed one of Scotland’s bloodiest battles and the last to take place on British soil. Bonnie Prince Charlie’s rebel army was slaughtered by government troops on 16th April, 1746. And the tormented souls of the defeated soldiers are reputed to still wander the moor where you might hear battle cries and the clashing of their swords.

While touring in your motorhome you can also visit Cawdor Castle. A Castle built around a 15th-century tower house and with substantial additions in later centuries. Cawdor Castle’s ghost is thought to be the daughter of the Earl of Cawdor, a wayward red headed lass who insulted her father because she flattered an enemy chieftain’s son. So when the Earl discovered their tryst, she fled to the highest tower of the castle as her father followed in murderous pursuit.

Day 3

Craigievar Castle, Alford, Aberdeenshire

So the Castle is said to be the inspiration for Walt Disney’s Cinderella castle but don’t be fooled by its pretty pink exterior. Within these pink walls lives the ghost of a fiddler who fell to his death in the castle’s well. Past guests of the Castle have reported hearing sounds of a fiddle being played during the night but the fiddler has never been found. EEK so spooky!

You can look also look around the castle and see the impressive collection of artefacts and armouries before you enjoy a stroll in the beautiful gardens and extensive woodland walks.

So if you’re lucky you might even catch sight of a Pine Martin and some red squirrels.

Day 4

Slains Castle, Aberdeenshire

Heading north to the coast and quaint fishing village of Cruden Bay. Home to the site of the ruins of Slains Castle and the site of a battle in which the Scots under King Malcolm II defeated the Danes.

In the 19th century Cruden Bay was the holiday destination of Bram Stoker  the author of Dracula. The ruins of Slains Castle drape murkily down from the headland inspiring Bram Stoker’s vision of Count Dracula’s Castle. So while you are there you can visit the Kilmarnock Arms Inn because Bram Stoker stayed there in 1895. Although I’m not sure I’d be having my tea there. If you do happen to eat there make sure to have something with plenty of garlic in it!

Day 5

Pendle, Lancashire

So if you live in Scotland and fancy “wee dander doon to England” in your luxury campervan you can check out these highly recommended places for Halloween.

The small Lancashire town of Pendle is home to the most famous witchcraft trials of the 17th century. They are famous because 10 local women thought to be witches were hanged on Pendle Hill.

So although the scenery is stunning during the day, by night things become dark and creepy.

You can follow a 45 mile witch trail and either start at Pendle or Lancaster depending on which way you want to do it.

Day 6

Muncaster Castle, Ravenglass, Cumbria

Next our list is the beautiful Muncaster Castle, near Ravenglass in Cumbria.

Muncaster Castle is in the west part of the Lake District and reputedly one of the most haunted castles in Britain. The castle, it’s gardens and the hawk and owl centre are an absolute must see over Halloween and hosts ghost tours plus many other Halloween themed events.

There are plenty of activities for little ones too such as kids Halloween crafts, lantern parades, spooky science sessions and even a Zombie shoot out!

The beauty of a motorhome tour is you can spend as long or short as you like in one place. If you visit Muncaster you are not far from the heart of the Lake District and can visit the stunning Lake Windermere and Coniston Water. You won’t be disappointed as the area is so beautiful in it’s Autumnal glory.
